Jan Porter

59 years old and senior angling consultant for Shimano/Rapala UK , Jan has been a consultant for 21 years for Shimano. He has competed in over 10 international angling events representing England, his motherland Norway and was one of the top UK match anglers in the 80’s.

His famous ‘Man In Red’ image made him a household name in the UK and over the twenty years has devoted his career to specimen angling in particular predator work.

Jan says:

“Having competed in last years event when I was undergoing chemo- therapy made it quite a tough and demanding undertaking. My partner Willem Stolk and I had several other challenges during the event but despite not faring as well as we, or many others had expected, for Willem and myself it was triumph for the human spirit in just taking part.

“As I write I have been given the all clear from my ‘cancer’, I feel that aside from the brilliant medical care and support from family and friends the positive experience of exciting events like 2014 WPC and continuing to lead as normal a life as possible also helped in keeping me psychologically upbeat and positive”.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, last year we made some mistakes and lady luck wasn’t on our side but I learned a lot and was very inspired by the whole thing, Dan and I know that it’s going to be a hard nut to crack but we cannot wait to start training on the venue and plan out campaign”.

Dan Brackley

Dan hails from a rich heritage of lure angling from his native Zimbawe, his family moved to the UK in 2003. Since then he has built up a solid reputation on the lure scene and been involved in the angling industry for 8 years.

Dan represented England in the 2014 World Artificial Lure & Boat Championships which was held in France, it was an eye opening experience and gave him a taste of international angling.

Shimano/Rapala UK signed Dan up as a Pro Staff consultant last year for his unparalleled product knowledge of lure angling, at home on either boat or bank.

Dan has a huge repertoire of lure techniques which he has utilised through the years for some memorable catches of a wide variety of freshwater predators.

A huge fan and user of Rapala and Shimano products it was a dream come true for this young but highly experienced lure technician.

Dan says:

“Obviously I’m relishing the chance to partner up with my good friend Jan in this prestigious event which has set such a grand stage for the lure angling world”.

“Having the opportunity to represent Shimano/Rapala UK at the WPC is both a privilege and an honour. I’m really excited and can’t wait to get on the water and compete against some of the most elite anglers in Europe and further afield.

“With the huge wealth of diverse cultural expertise on offer in June 2015 at Hellevoetsluis such as this I know that whatever happens I’ll come away from WPC with a wealth of knowledge as well as making many new friendships!”.
